FRIDAY AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES

One Day To ServeLast year over 500 students and leaders donated their time the Friday afternoon of Youth Convention to meet the needs of the Portsmouth community by cleaning, painting, raking, shoveling, and much more at various project sites around the city. The response from the city was incredible, and the Christ-like example from our students changed lives. Again this year a select group of students and leaders can participate in a day of service in conjunction with Connect Community Church, New England Masters Commission and Adopt-a-Block. If your group did not have the chance to participate last year or if you had a fantastic time of ministry and it changed the lives of your teens, you’ll want to get signed up for this event. Lunch is provided right after the morning session and the projects are all finished by 4 so you can get back to your hotel, have dinner and make it to the evening session. Only the first 200 students and leaders will be able to participate so don’t wait until the last minute to make up your mind.

Some Information...
Right after the morning session on Friday, all the students and leaders participating in ONE DAY TO SERVE will be served lunch and sent to different areas of the church to get briefed on their assignment for the afternoon. From there we’ll head out to our assigned neighborhoods to participate in various service projects. The projects will wrap up at 4:00, so you can get back to your rooms, get cleaned up, have some dinner and head back for our evening rally.

How much does it cost?
It will cost you time and labor, but there is no financial cost for the event itself. You and your students will receive lunch, and a t-shirt to be worn for the event. Come to the AM session prepared to head out for work in the afternoon with closed toe shoes and clothes appropriate to work in.

Why should I be involved?
This is a perfect way for you to exemplify the principles of compassion, love, and service that govern the lives of Christ’s followers. We believe this will be a life-changing time in your lives as you live out Christ’s love through service, and that it has the potential to have an incredible impact on the Portsmouth area.

How do I sign up?
If you and/or your group are interested in participating in ONE DAY TO SERVE you must sign up in advance of the event. This is absolutely necessary so that we can have projects available for everyone who wants to participate. Fill out the signup sheet here.

VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

VolleyballVolleyball is coming again to Newcastle Commons. That’s right, for those of you who are enthusiasts, or just like to hit a round ball over a high net, we are reinstituting the NNED Volleyball Challenge, a double elimination fun fest starting at 1 down next to the ocean. Sign up your team (only 12 slots are available) on the signup sheet here.

And there is enough to do at the Commons so even those who aren’t playing volleyball can have a great time. Bring your lunch and enjoy a relaxing meal, toss a Frisbee or football, or just take a walk...it’s all available at the park and there isn’t a charge.

NEMC is also making bag lunches available for your group if you would rather not have the hassle of finding a place to eat with your group before you head out to your activities. For $5, you get a drink, chips, and either a sandwich or piece of pizza from Moe's. If you are interested email stephanie_smc@ymail.com or call 603.436.8815 and ask for Stephanie.
