Ambassadors, Part 3

2 - Ambassadors are used to convey messages from one country to another, one ruler to other people.

When an ambassador is sent to another country as a representative of a nation, he/she usually has a message to convey to that nation. His job will be to convey the message that is given to him from his president, prime minister, king, etc.  He does not speak on his own behalf, or even his own thoughts, but he speaks the message that is given to him from the person who sent him.

As Christians we are no different. In 2 Corinthians 5:20 we read, “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” There is a message that God wants us to convey as His ambassadors. Be reconciled to God. In verse 19, Paul writes,”For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. This is the wonderful message he has given us to tell others.” (NLT) What great news for the world! First, that God is thinking of us, and second, that he offers us reconciliation. No longer will he count our sins against us.

We must convey this message because God asks us to. Our only problem is doing the assignment. We can fabricate reasons not to do our assignment, but in the end there is no valid excuse.  We are ambassadors. We have been given the assignment. We even have been given the means. As an ambassador, you have full access to the power of the kingdom of God. Of course that means we can never be truly effective without the life changing power of the Holy Spirit. Isn’t this one of the reasons that God sent the Holy Spirit, and that the Day of Pentecost occurred? Jesus sent his disciples as emissaries into the world, but first they were to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit to come upon them. In Acts 1:8, Jesus tells them, “When the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere - in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”(NLT) Once they received the power of the Holy Spirit, the message they spoke brought great results. As ambassadors, avail yourselves of the power of the Holy Spirit to convey the message that God has given you to share. Implore others on God’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
